8 Days in Northern Thailand

Tourists can experience the real Thailand here, where crumbling pagodas dot the city skylines, elephants trundle through the national parks and rugged terrain is seldom interrupted by development.

The mountainous northern region of Thailand draws plenty of visitors to its charming combination of genuine culture,  wilderness adventure and unbeatable scenery. The province has the highest mountains and many of the largest waterfalls in Thailand, along with some of its oldest cities and a distinctive Lanna culture that predates the great kingdoms of Sukhothai and Ayuthaya.

 Day 1. Transfer in

Meet and greet your tour guide at Chiang Mai International Airport and transfer to Hotel.

Day 2. Explore Chiang Mai by walking

Walking orientation tour of some of the sites, market, ancient temples and quite lane of Chiang Mai old city.

Day 3. Doi Inthanon National Park

Visit Doi Inthanon National Park . This is the highest mountain in Thailand 2,565m high above sea level where you can experience beautiful scenery and stunning waterfalls.

  • Visit the Karen Hill tribe Village
  • Upon reaching Doi Inthanon Summit we will stop at Wachiratarn waterfall, by far the most beautiful and spectacular waterfall in the National Park.
  • The Stupa were built facing each other amidst mountain top garden.
  • Whilst at the highest spot, we take a leisurely walk along the nature trail. Whilst at the summit we will take picnic lunch, enjoying the panoramic views at the highest spot in Thailand.

Day 4.Chiang Mai to Thaton

Departure from Chiang Mai for the far north with a scenic drive to the remote border town of Thaton including stop on the way to visit the fascinating cave temples at Chiang Dao, before checking out the spectacular views at Thaton Pagoda situated on a mountain top straddling the Thai-Burma border.

Day 5. Thaton – Chiang Rai

         

Beginning with a descent by boat of the scenic Kok River . We’ll stop at Hill tribe Village along Kok River to see their primitive lifer fore continuing to Chiang Rai. Evening tour of the town’s night bazaar.

Day 6. Chiang Rai – Doi Mae Salong

In the morning we will drive via the fascinating route of Mae Salong mountain and stop on route for visit Akha hill tribe village to the nearby mountain top town of Mae Salong.

After visit Akha hilltribe we will continue driving to Mae Salong Chinese Village, Originally founded by Chinese Republican soldiers, (Kuomintang) who took refuge in the area after defeat by Mao Tse Tung’s communist forces, the town was off limits for many years due to it’s role as a center for the opium trade but is now known for tea plantations and spectacular scenery as well as being the center for the local hill tribe peoples. Time to visit a tea plantation, wander around the picturesque mountain top town and perhaps participate in a tea tasting ceremony.

Day 7. Doi Mae Salong – Golden Triangle – Chiang Khong

Opportunity for an early start to visit the morning hill tribe market before continuing to the magnificent botanical gardens at Mae Fha Laung. From here we’ll travel north to the bustling Burmese border market at Mae Sai. A visit to Sob Ruak and the Golden Triangle itself where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Burmsa meet, and where we can take in the unusual House of Museum before continuing to the small riverside town of Chiang Khong for our overnight accommodation.

Day 8.

Drive to Chiang rai for transfer out to Chiang rai International Airport.
